Dom Duarte’s revamp will showcase the skill and artistry of the head chef, the bright colours and sophisticated techniques of his dishes… Also an extensive wine cellar that Dona Filipa Hotel as to offer.

Whilst the refurbishment of the pool area will highlight the beauty of our impressive centrepiece and offer an inviting hub of elegance and relaxation for all the guests.

Please see the full schedule of refurbishments below, but first we’d like to put your mind at ease that during this period that Dona Filipa is working hard to ensure you still get the very best five-star service and dining available anywhere in the Algarve.

That’s why, during the renovation:

Dom Duarte Restaurant will serve as the breakfast room, as well as offering lunches and evening dining… The newly renovated Duques bar will also be serving serve lunch, dinner and light snacks throughout the day.

In addition,  Portico Restaurant at the Pinheiros Altos Course, and the restaurant at our San Lorenzo Club House will be available for lunch and light meals – with free transfers offered to both by Dona Filipa Hotel.

During the renovation of Dom Duarte, all evening dining will be offered at our newly refurbished Primavera Restaurant.

Seven years later, European Tour golf returns to Portugal and will be hosted at the Morgado Golf Resort in the Algarve.

The European Tour golf announced today the definitive calendar for 2017 and in it, surprise, there is the “Open of Portugal in the Morgado Golf Resort (full name of the tournament), from 11 to 14 May at the Morgado Golf Course, the Nau Hotels & Resorts Group, in Portimão. The complex has another course, the Álamos Golf Course.

A welcome return, since it was not held since 2010 (under the Estoril Open title in Portugal) in Penha Longa, with victory of the Danish Thomas Bjorn, recently nominated captain of Europe in the Ryder Cup. The event therefore returns to the Algarve, since between 2007 and 2010 was played in Greater Lisbon courses (Oitavos Dunes, Cascais, 2007, 2008 and 2009, and Penha Longa in 2010).

It will be the 55th edition of one of the oldest and most emblematic events of the main European circuit. It will have a prize money of 500,000 Euros and will be dual, in the sense of scoring simultaneously for the European Tour and the Challenge Tour, as was the Madeira Open, which this year will not be played after 23 consecutive editions.

The Open Portugal is one of three back-to-back races, alongside The Rocco Forte Open – Verdura (18-21 May) in Sicily, Italy, and the Andalucia Valderrama Masters hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation (19-22 October).

The Portuguese Open at the Morgado Golf Resort will be hosted by NAU Hotels & Resorts, owner of the golf course, the Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG) and the PGA of Portugal, in association with the European Tour and the Challenge Tour.

Penha Longa Resort, at Sintra near Lisbon, is overjoyed to announce that LAB by Sergi Arola — its revolutionary 22-visitor gourmet restaurant — has been awarded its first Michelin star.

After 18 months opened, LAB by Sergi Arola has carried out global essential acclaim with the Michelin Guide describing it as a “striking restaurant that brings the highly personalized cuisine of famous Spanish chef Sergi Arola to the Sintra region”.

The guide praised the restaurant’s atmosphere, open-view kitchen, “delightful” glass-block 550-bottle wine cellar and its views of the Penha Longa golf route and the 220 hectares of mountain nature reserve that surround the resort.

“Cuisine excellence has been an critical purpose to go to the resort for the reason that Portuguese Royal family used Penha Longa Resort as a summer retreat in the 17th century,” said the resort’s General Manager David Martinez. “Receiving a Michelin star builds on this wonderful tradition and is a prestigious and internationally recognized testimony to all our hard work at LAB by Sergi Arola.”

Chef Sergi Arola has released dining concepts in Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Verbier, Barcelona and Madrid and have become an international culinary sensation and television persona after working at Ferran Adriá’s world famous El Bulli. Heading the kitchen at LAB is chef Milton Anes, who formerly worked at Le Bristol’s Epicure in Paris and at Belcanto, Lisbon’s first two Michelin-starred restaurants.

“Being awarded a Michelin star is the pinnacle achievement of any kitchen and it is a momentous tribute to everyone who has helped contribute to LAB’s reputation for excellence and innovation,” stated Chef Milton. “The number of Michelin-stars awarded to restaurants in Portugal has increased from 17 in 2016 to 26 today and we are delighted to be at the vanguard of such a national movement that undoubtedly puts the country on the international culinary map.”

LAB by Sergi Arola gives three exceptional tasting menus every month in addition to à la carte alternatives. Gourmet dishes consist of smoked king prawn raviolis with sturgeon caviar, codium and celery root dashi, blue lobster with grilled greens, seaweed and fennel cream, as well as black angus roasted in Sichuan pepper, glazed salsify and truffle jus. Desserts feature butter bread foam, coffee ice-cream and orange jam.

The restaurant also gives a selection of 550 wines from around the world, exclusive Cognac and Armagnac selections and a tea menu with forty different sorts. A separate bar-lounge area with DJ serves the largest choice of top rate vodkas in Portugal.
