The Vilamoura Golf Club won the 23rd BPI National Mid-Amateurs Club Championship, organised by the Federação Portuguesa de Golfe at the Oporto Golf Club, in Espinho, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.
It’s the second time that the Algarve‘s Golf Club, now led by coach Joaquim Sequeira, has won this competition after the success in the inaugural race in 1993.
Vilamoura, in the Algarve, is a top location for golf players and offers some of the best and renowned golf courses in the world. The Vila Sol golf course and 4 Oceanico courses: Laguna, Victoria, Pinhal and the Millennium. Some of the best Hotels and Resorts are also available.
Vilamoura Golf Club is now the current holder of the main amateur club championship (which it will defend later this year), the under-14s (won this year), and now the Mid-Amateur one.
This year, the Mid-Amateur category included players aged 30 years and older, thus allowing more clubs to enter teams, so this time a total of twenty took part.
As a curiosity to emphasize, one of the club players, Ricardo Pereira was a former international goal-keeper and national football champion and now, so many years later, is a national champion of golf clubs, on the category of Mid-Amateurs.
