Portuguese nr. 1 is the only of eight Portuguese players in the Portugal Masters en route to make the cut. João Ramos also had a great performance – one below Oceanico’s Victoria par and is also close. Scottish Marc Warren leads with a round where he scored 8 below par.

Ricardo Melo Gouveia made Thursday his best round ever in Portugal Masters in five appearances in the most important Portuguese golf tournament, with a 2 million prize money, and finished the first day in 12th place, tied with nine players, including two Grand Slam tournaments champions, the Scot Paul Lawrie and Irish Padraig Harrington.

 The Portuguese,161st the world ranking completed the first round in 66 strokes, 5 under the par Victoria Golf Club in Vilamoura. In the first 18 holes, he converted five birdies in 5 holes (par-5), 11 (Par-4), 12 (par-5), 15 (Par-4) and 17 (par-5).

The ACP Golf pro is the only one of eight Portuguese in the provisional cut, but João Ramos, making his debut in the Portugal Masters, in a course where he had never played before, beat the par-71 of the late Arnold Palmer designed golf course, with a score of 70 (-1).

The other Portuguese players are classified as follows: 107th Pedro Figueiredo (+2) and Hugo Santos (+2), 115 th Tomás Silva (+3) and Pedro Lencart (+3), 121st João Carlota (+4) e 124 th Tiago Cruz (+ 5).
