Easyjet reopens Faro base for the summer

EasyJet stated that it will resume summer operations from its seasonal base at Gago Coutinho International Airport in Faro.

“EasyJet, the main European airline, reopened its base in Faro, inaugurated in the summer of 2021, from which it will operate 21 routes this summer”, said the air carrier in a statement.

It will have nine A320 planes in the Algarve until the end of October, with a total capacity of 2.1 million seats, up 15% from 2022, according to the same source.

The carrier detailed the locations that it serves from Faro, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Milan, Basel, Geneva, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, London, Glasgow, Lyon, Nantes, Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Paris.

“We can’t wait to get back in the air over the Algarve and start the new season. The reopening of the Faro base in 2021 was one of EasyJet Portugal’s largest investments to date”, said the general director José Lopes.

At the end of February, the Portuguese airport manager ANA announced that Gago Coutinho international airport would have 18 new routes and 6 new destinations in the summer, operating a total of 81 connections to 71 cities.

This increase in routes has already given the Algarve “the greatest connectivity ever”, according to João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), who said it was “the result of joint work between Turismo do Algarve, ANA Aeroportos and Turismo de Portugal”.

After that, the RTA president said, “we have a very substantial increase in available seats during the summer, which is 250,000 seats more than in 2019, which was the year with the highest offer ever”.

Faro Airport will have new routes and destinations

The management of Portugal’s international airport Gago Coutinho (ANA), in Faro, Algarve, has revealed that this summer, the airport will offer 18 new routes to 6 new locations, and 81 connections to 71 cities.

The airport manager in Faro believes that the increased accessibility to the Algarve via flights will help to “consolidate the offer and regional and national tourism activities” during the peak season for visitors to the region.

The airline noted that the additional flights will help the “development of strategic markets”, and that “the primary issuing nations for Faro airport, United Kingdom, Ireland, and France, enhanced their supply of seats” compared to the summer of 2019.

Turismo do Algarve‘s president João Fernandes deemed this a “clear proof” of “the trust of tour operators and airlines in the Algarve destination”.

The 6 new destinations, Aarhus (Denmark), Rome (Italy), Strasbourg (France), Bilbao (Spain), and Jersey and Exeter (UK), will provide “almost 85,000 more seats” to Faro, as noted by João Fernandes, who highlighted the significance of the 18 new routes announced by ANA for the period from April to October.

In response to a question regarding whether or not the Algarve would surpass its record-breaking visitor numbers from 2019, João Fernandes said that there are encouraging signs in that direction, but that “cautious optimism” is needed, given the current economic and geopolitical situation.

The Algarve is the most famous golf holiday destination in Portugal and has some of the best golf courses in the country, like Monte Rei or Dom Pedro Old.

Europe flying again

Europe Flying Again

Europe flying!

Despite the fact that coronavirus travel restrictions remain in place around much of Europe, the airlines have already resumed some routes and Faro is one of them.

Yes, air travel will be a far different experience than it was before but keep in mind that airlines working closely with public health authorities to ensure that all flights comply, with effective measures to limit the spread of Covid-19.

The first thing is first before the flight make sure you know your airport’s current policies. Most airports have created pages with Covid-19 updates.

Before flying Flying think about how you can minimize the contact at the airport. Most airlines suggest that travelers download their app for touchless boarding, which will minimize the number of times you have to hand over documents or touch screens.

At the airport, you should expect a rigorous amount of cleaning.

Most airports have increased hand sanitizer stations and the frequency of cleaning surfaces. Some airport shops may be closed, and not all airlines are serving food on flights, so you may want to bring your own food for the plane. Check with your airline company. You may want to make sure you have a contactless payment method instead of using cash at the airport and inside the plane. Don’t forget, you should use a mask, wipes and hand sanitizer all the time. Also, pay attention to the floor markers indicating.

reduce the number of things that go into the reusable plastic bins, put items, including belts, wallets, keys, and phones, into your carry-on bags, rather than into a bin.

Once you are inside the plane, you may consider to wipe down your seat although airlines are ensuring a deep cleaning between every flight. Most airlines have created a Covid-19 page explaining what they are doing to keep passengers safe. This page has detailed information about the cleaning protocols of the airline.

Most airlines are asking people to keep their masks on during the flight. Masks can be taken off to eat and drink. You should know that the air on the plane is pretty clean. However, confirm the mask policy with your airline.

Keep in mind that airlines are now operating with a reduced capacity. So it is quite unlikely to have another passenger in the seat next to you but again, to be sure, please confirm with the airline company.

After the flight, once you arrive to Algarve, you can just relax and start to enjoy your well deserved, very much missed golf holidays by respecting a few general rules for your safety since we are all well prepared to receive you here with all the health and safety regulations applied.
